Beyond Expectations

Janice was at a loss for words. In all of her years, she had never experienced anything like this. While it was tempting, she refused the man’s offer and sat back down in her chair. But he wasn’t going to give up that easily.

He was determined to show her the appreciation she deserved. Before she knew it, he was opening up the overhead compartment and pulling out her gear. She was just trying to make sense of it all. She was still confused as it was all beyond everything’s she expected.

New Seat

And just like that, the flight attendants showed Janice the man’s seat in business class. She couldn’t believe this was happening to her. It felt like a dream, and she didn’t want to wake up. She was so happy and still in awe of  what she was experiencing.

When she got to business class, Janice couldn’t believe what she saw. It was even more luxurious than she imagined. The comfortable seats were just what her achy body needed. Now she finally thought she is going to have a really experience in this flight and like it was worth it.

Everything She Dreamed Of

Janice stowed her gear and sunk into the plushy, oversized seat she received from the handsome man as a gift for her service. The flight attendant took extra good care of her, giving her drinks and endless snacks. And finally, the plane was ready for take-off.

While it was more than anything Janice could have dreamed of, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. She also thought she was just getting paranoid of all this happening to her.

Something is Off

She loved the feeling of being taken care of in business class, but she knew she wasn’t supposed to be there. The man paid extra money for his seat and he shouldn’t be sitting in economy. It felt like she was doing wrong by the kind man.

But he was sitting there, cramped in the last window seat on the plane, which was way too small for his muscular body. He did it all so Janice could enjoy the flight. And now going back asking for their seats to be exchanged again would feel bad.

Thanking Him

Janice wanted to do something nice for him, to repay him for his kindness, but she didn’t know what to do. She wanted to give him his seat back, but she knew he wouldn’t accept it. She just wanted to show how grateful she was for his kind gesture.

There had to be another way to show him how appreciative she was for his kind gesture. She thought of everything. She knew she couldn’t afford to reimburse him, so she came up with the next best thing.

The Note

So, she pulled out a sheet of paper and wrote the kind man a note. She even threw in $20—it was all she had on her. The solider shared how thankful she was and she asked him to use the money to get a drink.

When she finished writing, she asked the attendant to give him the note. While she knew it wasn’t a lot, it was the best she could do. This was everything she could think of on a plane to express her gratitude.
